Oreste Martini Viola, 1949

Oreste Martini (1893–1957) was an accomplished Italian violin maker and an important representative of the twentieth-century Mantuan school. Born and active in Mantua, he studied under the celebrated luthier Stefano Scarampella and initially specialized in crafting double basses before expanding his work to violins, violas, and cellos. His instruments followed classical Italian models and are recognized for their robust construction, expressive character, and rich red- or orange-brown varnish. Martini received awards in Cremona, Padua, and Paris, and his instruments remain appreciated by musicians and collectors today.
